Chris Guo is a Grade 11 student at John McCrae Secondary School and a former student of Merivale High School’s Pre-IB program. He has been playing piano since the age of five and is a dedicated Classical, Opera, and Musical Theatre performer. Chris has earned numerous awards in Musical Theatre and Classical Voice, including nominations to the provincial level at the Kiwanis Music Festival and the prestigious Musical Theatre Trophy Classes in Ottawa.
Beyond performance, Chris is the founder and president of Musical Memory, a volunteer initiative that connects students with retirement communities through live music. Through this work, he has gained experience organizing concerts, leading student performers, and sharing music as a means of building community. In the future, Chris hopes to continue developing as both a performer and leader, combining his passion for music with meaningful outreach.
Oliver Xu is a grade 11 student attending Merivale high school's IB program. He has been playing piano since the age of 5 and is currently studying for the Royal Conservatory of Music program's (RCM) Licentiate Diploma (LRCM). Having completed the Associates Diploma for performers and all existing previous RCM levels, he has a deep understanding of music performance, theory and history. Throughout their academic career, they were actively involved in competitions, performing pieces of well known composers, including in various Steinway International Music Competitions and performing at Carnegie hall.
Oliver has gained experience with through various roles, including serving as a piano tutor for young children in recent years, where they were responsible for teaching rudimentary technical and theory related topics. They also contributed as a solo performer at various concerts and occasions, including ceremonies, holiday celebrations and volunteering. In the future, he hopes to contribute more to the music community by sharing his knowledge and passion with others.
Mary is avid about putting this event to reality, drawing on her past experience organizing community programs and coordinating volunteers. She has gathered valuable insights through working with local partners, helping manage logistics, and supporting initiatives that bring people together. Her commitment to seeing ideas through to completion reflects both her passion for service and her ability to transform plans into meaningful results.
Sullivan Tan is a grade 11 IB student at Merivale HS. He is an avid and experienced piano player and loves to challenge himself with more and more difficult pieces. His favorite composer is Frédéric Chopin for his incredible and transcendental expressiveness in his compositions and loves to play his works. In his free time, he enjoys playing chess and listening to music; regularly competing in chess tournaments and winning many awards.
